I mean the headline is literally: “Read this: How nerds became bullying PR stooges for the Marvel monoculture”.

And at this point, what with it being the highest grossing film franchise of all time, it’s not really accurate to describe the Marvel movies as a part of “nerd” culture. They’re just pop culture in general.…

Either it’s “a mildly positive review” or he “didn’t like the movie very much”, pick one. You don’t give a paper a B-, then declare it one of the “worst of the year” without a massive change of heart in between.

Which I think supports the idea that Joker is (barely) on this list not because of the movie itself, but because of the director’s boneheaded comments and other critics vastly overselling it. This is supposed to be the “Worst” films of 2019, not “Most Overrated”.

And yet it’s on their worst movies of 2019 list, so...?

And this is after the fact that they gave it a positive grade and review too, a fact Jesse even came into the comments section to acknowledge.

*zing* yeah if one of your own reviewers gives it a B then it is kind of hard to include it on your list of worst films. Even if it was “loathed strongly enough by a sufficiently sizable number of contributors to land itself on this list” it still is weird to have it mentioned in the same category as a Medea film or…

How pathetic can the writers on here get to put Joker on the list? You wished for it to bomb for vindication but that didn’t quite work out for you guys, did it now?

Its anger is an impotent, irrelevant anger, the rage of a tween.

Spending the months leading up to Joker’s release anticipating how bad it will be and then putting it on the worst of the year list for not living down to your expectations is pretty much Peak 2019 AV Club.

Was it totally necessary to, like, quote every ‘like’ he uttered as is. That's like so annoying.

I get angry every time I see the house in the GMC commercial with the couple in their late 20s/ early 30s living in a million dollar modern mansion and he buys them matching GMCs because her matching watches for the hell of it. Who is this supposed to appeal to? 

Why would she be nervous about riding on a stationary bike? You can’t fall off, get lost, or get side-swiped by an impatient driver. And when you can’t pedal anymore, just get off.
