I disagree. It’s a fundamentally cruel punishment that severely limits the ability of these children to socialize with the people they need to connect with at a vital stage of their emotional development. It’s the kind of thing that you need a therapist for when you’re older, which is not what any school punishment…

Maybe show that picture to those kids instead of shaming them. Lots more where it came from.

Well no, it’s not. The effects of public shaming of students is more far reaching than the picture shared among (I’m assuming) a small group of friends. Again, they should be punished, but they shouldn’t have their lives ruined.

That’s terrible, but it doesn’t end your social life. Being marched through school for the purpose of being socially stigmatized is more damaging. It makes these kids even more separated from their class, and it reinforces their sentiments.

I’m not saying to ignore it or accept it obviously. Resolve it in a way that lets these kids continue to grow. Punish them, but don’t ruin their lives.

I was unsympathetic until I got the March of Shame part. Holy shit that is Orwellian.

I think it was less “go fuck yourself” and more sage advice. It’s OK to be upset about stuff like that.
