More likely: EA have found the upper limit for now. They will never stop trying to push the envelope on microtransactions, and in a year or two this will seem quaint.

For a fun read, check out “The Dark Side” by Jane Mayer for a wonderful reminder of the terrible things Bush, and Cheney, and Addington, and Yoo, etc... got up to. The book has some... strange editorial moments though.

Now playing

Counterpoint: Nirvana’s Top of the Pops 1991 performance:

Did Mario Kart Wii feature the occasional Tournament backwards track with extra jump pads, or maybe I’m thinking of a different racer?

Laden laptop laden, Googles ogling

I read this novel a while ago as an attempt to read Classics I had missed. I remember being quite bewildered by some of what was going on...

Definitely not Robotron 2084; I’m pretty sure the player is controlling a ship scrolling over land in the game I’m thinking of.

I know this is probably not the best place to post this, but I’m going to try anyway:

Hooray! Goodbye The A.V. Club, hello Kinja!

Nope! The first was “Labyrinth” which had me feeling nauseous at 2 scenes I don’t remember and then when swamp appeared, I went full-on volcano mode.

Navel-ignoring is a definite feature for those in a position of safety.

Can you suggest any entertaining science fiction movies with well represented POC (not counting Jurassic Park)? The only one I can spontaneously think of is Sphere which...has some directing flaws (who the hell thought this needed ham-fisted chapter title breaks?) but I enjoyed it.

Even better than John Carpenter’s “The Thing”?

Fun story time: I saw Event Horizon in the theater and the early shot where the camera slowly pulls back and spins gave me awful motion sickness. I was on the verge of puking, but once it passed I enjoyed the rest of the movie.

I’ts frustrating that bad online behavior seems like it should be a simple thing for game companies to fix. Maybe add a feature where players rate each other (ala Demon’s Souls) or somehow tie reputation (reports of racist / sexual / abusive behavior) to online ID. But this is unlikely to happen until companies see it

Protip for Starfox: a barrel roll (double tap L or R) will deflect a surprising amount of enemy attacks.

Any chance Kinja can highlight A.V. Club staff in comments?

Try reducing your text size to 67% in Chrome or the equivalent in other browsers. It’s a terrible workaround but it helps.

I often remember Kanye saying that and Mike Myers’ reaction via the Daily Show coverage. It brings a smile to my face every time.

I vaguely remember seeing Tig Notaro on Conan (maybe a really long time ago, 10 years?) and genuinely laughing... But then again, I haven’t seen anything more recent
