I think insurance coverage will have to rely on the individual States.

That’s the Black Surfing Association (now Black Surfing Collective), which dates back to the 1970s (maybe earlier). My Father was surfing longboards in Los Angeles in the 1950s, my older Brother has been surfing from age 13 (in the early ‘70s), and both my younger brothers as well. Now, 16 year-old niece surfs too.

Yes, sadly Ms. Abrera’s career was plagued by injuries. Though, from what I’ve read, she’s very active in training and supporting Filipin/a/o dancers in the US and at home in the Phillipines.

Could you please point folks to MobBallet.org? The mission is “Curating the Memories of Blacks in Ballet”. It is founded by one the best dance critic / educators out there: Therese Ruth Howard

Now playing

Or, you could watch “The Harlem Nutcracker”, made famous by Dance Theater of Harlem, Choreography: Donald Byrd (same name, but not the jazz musician). Music by Duke Ellington.

One of my other favorite ballet dancers, Stella Abrera is retiring this year from American Ballet Theater. Ms. Abrera is a proud Filipina from Los Angeles.

For everyone else, here’s my earlier commentary, which was both grey’d and eaten by Kinja:

I guess you’re speaking of me — without promoting my commentary from the greys. As I mentioned in my comment, I’ve been attending opera and ballet in the US and Europe since the 1970s.

First, an apology for multiple post of this reply as Kinja hates me. Sometimes my replies post, sometimes they don’t. Sometimes I’m grey’d, sometimes not. It’s really frustrating...

As a hardcore opera fan since the 70s, I’m offering this opinion about casting for “appropriate” race / ethnicity or “color correctness”. Yes, there are far more African-American or singers of African descent than the wider public realizes — BUT, and this is a major grievance of mine — I am strongly opposed to “stunt

This is a surprise to me, as I thought that having a mental health specialist assigned to professional teams was a norm.

Old folks like me will remember Lonette McKee from her albums in the ‘70s:

From Interlochen, 1968, a 22 year old Jessye Norman sings “Allmächt’ge Jungfrau” (Tannhäuser) by Richard Wagner.

Yes, I agree.

Please my comment above about Kathy Battle, and the “I Survived The Battle” T-shirts. <smile>.

I haven’t seen Netrebko in performance (yet), but I do love her voice.

I should also note that I am old enough, and fortunate enough, to have seen Placidio in performance during his prime.

Absolutely, Ana Netrebko is the big draw here.
