Where does an MRA get water?
From a well, actually.

Its really troubling in this “sexual accuser” hysteria that the word of any number of accusers is enough to bring someones life down.
“Person alleges” is actually tolerable, though “Person said” is better because “alleges” might carry a hint of doubt toward the allegation. The real problem is with “alleged killer” or “alleged crimes” or any construction where it’s unclear who is doing the alleging.
Sexual assault and rape can also both be civil claim.
I don’t think using: “Actress X says Harvey Did Y” instead of: “Weinstein allegedly did X” is lowering standards.
Also, not giving people a seat at the table is exactly what’s led us to the situation we’re in now, with the biggest, dullest dotard of them all running the circus. You have a group of people who know how…
Ok. I don’t agree.
Re-read all of those headlines, the word allegedly doesn’t even make sense in most of them.
The moment we give in and start referring to allegations as understood facts, we’ve lost the basis of our system.
Serious question: Did you actually read the article?
Did you read the piece? The point isn’t that journalists shouldn’t report with a nuanced eye to the presumption of innocence. The point is, “allegedly” is a bad way to accomplish that.
The point the writer makes is that the press protects presumption of innocence to an extraordinary degree when it’s a man accused of sex crimes by a woman. All she suggests is that the press craft headlines and text that reflect what the women actually say, versus trying to keep things “politically correct” on behalf…
There is no reason to further define these statements the woman makes as unproven...it’s already the default assumption. No one in their right mind reads “Woman Says Harvey Weinstein Raped Her” and assumes it’s a fact that Harvey Weinstein is a rapist. It’s redundant to include the word “alleged” there, because as a…
You missed the point.
Holy shit, this is not a complex topic, and yet 90% of the commenters are totally thrown. Diana is NOT advocating for the right to libel people at will. She is arguing that the words “alleged” and “accused” are bad ways to carefully source allegations.
Bullshit. You said people are entitled to a presumption of innocence “from society”. Then you quoted your edited post as if that’s what I responded to.
