Well, this is certainly a shocking development.

Meh, he stopped over at Cruise’s house for Mai Tai’s. Haven’t seen him since.

More than all those other companies, Twitter is not very useful to the average person. It’s not very useful for staying in contact with “in real life” friends and family so it’s mainly used by people who have a big enough ego to think the whole world cares what they think on a day to day basis (hence Trump’s love for

.....hey- anyone know if there an Android port of this game?

And the ultra-fanboys still think Rick is someone to be idolized. Rick is a self-destructive, manipulative asshole who will occasionally do the right thing when it benefits him.

Settle down, Picasso

“The Science Fiction genre has been doing this since HG Welles”

Or to be fair, both genres since Shelley.

I think Brent was talking about the film, not the Novella.

Maybe I’m just not sufficiently well-read when it comes to short fiction, but I can’t think of a genre other than SF where the *editors* are held in high regard.

Let’s just say that Campbell’s story sticks with you pretty well when read to you by your father, at the age of 11, in a cabin in the woods. But yes, Carpenter’s movie is a masterpiece. One of my favorites of any genre. I put it to you that it would work even if there was no monster, just as a story of insanity and

yeah, I was kinda like “what???” when I saw the premise of this piece. The story was very clearly and famously a Red Menace metaphor.

I couldn’t disagree more that there’s nothing going on with The Thing at the very least as it’s the best story I know about group dynamics. Once Gary is stripped of the artificial title of “leader” (given to him by some unknown source before the film starts), we see how leaders are chosen and discarded, how men fight

I think that the three are pretty different:
Who Goes There? (1938): very similar to a Lovecraft story, all about people and science reaching too far into the unknown. The creature is a shape-shifter, but the trust factor isn’t exploited as much in this story as it is in the 1982 movie.
The Thing From Another World

“The horror genre is uniquely suited to commentary and social criticism...”

Yeah, Sean Penn is a prick and can go fall off a cliff, but “I’d prefer not to be murdered in retaliation for directing the authorities to the location of a vicious murderer” seems like a pretty reasonable take.

Wait... if the story is that Penn tipped off the authorities as to the location of this mass killer wouldn’t that make him the hero?

Now the Zodiac Killer has no choice but to reveal himself in order to distance himself from Ted Cruz.

Because, AS PREVIOUSLY STATED, I know several wildfire fighters, AND THEY’RE ALL WOMEN.

What the hell does that have to do with ‘lonely’. What the hell is wrong with you?

I know several wildfire fighters - and they’re all women. Is this the only wildfire fighting crew in America that has no women in it?

I keep having this cognitive dissonance whenever I see the trailer.

I live in Prescott, where these guys were from. I didn’t know any of them, but most of my friends, and the folks I work with, knew at least one person that was killed. With as devastating as the event was, I can’t bring myself to see this.
