It is a straw man because you’re arguing a point I’m not and then attributing it to me. I’m not saying a businesses should be able to deny food or lodging. I don’t think two trucks and hotels should be able to refuse gay people, or trans people or any other people but that’s a different issue.

I don’t have a problem with enjoying stories understanding that they’re fictional. I do think pretending magic is real and actually happens is harmful, and frankly fucking stupid.

Well we live in a world that’s going to see a mass extinction soon because of a general lack of scientific fluency. So a bunch of adults pretending magic is real is not particularly endearing to me as it’s endemic of a larger problem that’s going to cost a lot of people their lives. I think it’s important to remember that any enjoyment of a work of fiction is subjective and when someone is saying a movie doesn’t work or isn’t good enough in any area what they’re really tagging at the end of that statement is “for me.” You can grow and learn things considering perspectives outside of your own but…
