I’m so glad this is being discussed more and more.

No it is not true. It’s something you’re very committed to espousing to justify men preying on children for sex. You chanting “girls are three years more mature than boys” doesn’t make it a fact. It makes you transparent.

[we should clarify why this specifically lands like an insult—this’ll get us in trouble otherwise —let me know if this works]

So, it sounds like Battan’s actual piece represents Rose well. It’s important to remember that the dek was written by some editor—not by Battan. And it’s designed to get as many people interested in the piece as possible.

This “study” is just fundamentally flawed viral marketing tosh. It’s done by a commercial website who do all sorts of vaguely descried surveys that all yield salacious results (2/3 British men have secret bank accounts, many to have affairs, 50% of British people lie about their relationship status on social media,

So I’ve been a vegetarian for more than half of my life, so to me (like you), meat actually nauseates me. I’ve had friends jokingly try to tempt me, or to ask when I’ve ever broken down and eaten a burger, and the answer is quite honestly never ever. I’ve never even wanted to.

I attribute this in part to the rise of vegetarianism as a ‘health’ or diet choice, a la Beyonce. If you’re quitting meat like you quit smoking or cut carbs, yeah, you’ll cheat when your inhibitions are down. If you’re veg because you want to protect animals, it’s really not tempting.

I drink buckets of beer on a pretty regular basis and never crave meat either. Pizza, definitely, and one of my pubs has tater tots smothered in a homemade spicy cheese sauce OHHHH YES.

THIS

Me either, although I have a distinct advantage in that I’ve never eaten meat in my life. I do crave cheese (all the time) especially when I’m drunk/high, so I could see me mistake-binging on that if I ever become vegan.

1 in 3 “vegetarians” probably also think that chicken is a vegetable. I’ve met some of these people.

I’ve been a vegetarian for about 15 years and never once felt the urge to eat meat...ever. I wonder if this study controlled for how long they’ve been vegetarian?

As a strict vegetarian, honestly appalled and a little nauseated. I’ve heard of it in private anecdotes, but not as a one-third ratio.

Ive been a vegetarian for the past 15 years, I’ve drank my fair share of alcohol in that time also. Not once did I eat a piece of meat while drinking or after drinking.

Earth is all like, *eyeroll*

You hit the nail on the head with the quotation marks. Actual New Yorkers don’t give a flying fuck about this (they don’t really give a flying fuck about anything anyone does as long as it’s not dramatically affecting them). It’s only the self-congratulatory transplants play-acting at being “New Yorkers” who bother to

While I’m a lifelong feminist (since The 80s... When I was a kid & first heard & understood the term), I’ve gotta say I basically give zero fucks if anyone else chooses the term to describe their beliefs. It just doesn’t mean to everyone what it means to me.

Whoa, womanism is a valid alternative to feminism.

I’m on your side of the argument when it comes to Feminism vs. Humanism, but you’re overriding Meryl’s agency when you say “this is what she really meant to say but couldn’t say it because this is how she felt.” I don’t know what her “real” thoughts on the topic are, and, unless you know Meryl Streep personally, you
