This film really caught me off-guard the first time I saw it. I was hoping for a gritty procedural cop drama, but wasn't expecting, in addition to said drama, sudden outbreaks of flying kicks, a ten-minute karaoke scene culminating with the chief vomiting into a bucket, endless gallows humour, and an ending/final

It's beautiful, and so subtle. And really, I guess, only works so well because the preceding two hours have done such a great job of telling the story. Oh, plus Kang-ho Song is an absolute boss.

A smell? Oh, well a lot of the stars from the 70's - they were not as hygienic as they appeared on TV.
