I’d bet the whole purpose of the boat is to escape unrest and go live in the open ocean a few years of he has to. If I were super rich, id consider it. But I wouldn’t tell everyone about it.

Somehow I doubt those people’s skillsets are so narrow that all they can do is build Jeff Bezo’s silly boat.

Lots of people are employed digging up coal, drilling for oil, and drilling for natural gas. That doesn’t mean we should keep doing it.

Increasing wages at an Amazon factory would have *absolutely* zero effect on inflation.

I reported to a CEO years ago that did the same. Had a medical startup, made a buttload of money, sold his business and bought an island.

If I was Bezos I’d be afraid of mutiny. Someone push him off the boat in the middle of the high seas or tie him up and hold him for ransom then float it to some place to strip and sell for parts. Hell, even his security detail couldn’t be trusted once they got into international waters. If i was him, I wouldn’t set

They’re talking the hundreds of thousands of people employed by Amazon working in dismal conditions for a company that overwhelms small communities and shuts down small businesses

so do you believe that the money simply ceases to exist if he doesn’t have it? bullshit, man. when those multibillions are spread across the workers as they should be, not only does that money still get injected into the economy, but typically it’s also done in significantly more efficient and economically healthy

Fuck this and the massive excess waste. No one needs a ship like this. I don't care if he is rich, this is just pure excess.

well, when you’ve been brainwashed by capitalism your whole life, it’s hard to see another point. All I did was read a book, bookLET at that. The communist manifesto. Even though that’s just the tip of the iceberg, changed the way I thought about the world we live in.

In the “hard hit marine sector”? What does that actually mean? The mega yacht industry is booming. Regardless of anyone’s opinion on Bezos or yachts, this isn’t Bezos helping a beleaguered industry.

Did someone praise him for his business practices?  I missed that.  If you’re going to argue, do it in good faith.

Bezos is UBER rich and is going to spend his money however he wants—spaceships, cowbot hats, mega yachts, ex-wives, etc. Yes, I don’t personally respect his business model, but that doesn’t change the fact that anything I have to say about it is going to change how he operates.

This is the better point. He exploited tens/hundreds of thousands of people to generate the wealth to buy this monstrosity. As have every other yacht owner out there. So while the luxury yacht building and operating business does employ people, that number pales in comparison the amount of people who’s labor and wages

You should be ashamed of yourself for your take. just because we can doesn’t mean we should. Nothing about the Bezos Boat is groundbreaking or amazing in any meaningful way. It’s just a clumsy use of unlimited funds.

I’m not saying they shouldn’t be glad for the work. I’m saying that COVID-19 has been great for the recreational marine industry. Maybe this project was planned before the pandemic. However, the growth the industry is seeing now, is directly tied to COVID and people’s desire to do things away from other people.

It’s impactful to those employed by the yard. Sure looks like a project a couple of minimum wage workers knocked out in a week /s

He should name it the Hubris.  So stupid.  To argue it creates jobs is like arguing toxic waste cleanup creates jobs- yes, but it accomplishes nothing, whereas his ex-wife has already done alot of good with her obscene wealth.

Yes the super rich can still be super rich and pay their employees living wages and taxes that support the infrastructure that enable them to become super rich.

Or just fucking take it apart right there in the drydock.
