I will say that is NOT normal, and neither is a 17% before mid-semester. Can you and some other students go to the dean? Are there TAs you can talk to? They may be more receptive than the professor, and will usually bring things back to them...

I taught anatomy to nurses and med students, and while the hazing/emotional abuse does NOT sound normal, we were expected to weed. The standards for people in nursing school were much higher than those in med school; for better or worse, once you were accepted to med school, you were in (a C doctor still passes), but…
