To be perfectly fair, they’re all a fucking nightmare and that’s putting it tamely.

They don’t have the source files for all the artwork to IX, if any of it. (lots of outside contractors on that game in particular and they were awful with preserving their own files) So it’s quite unlikely they’re only putting in extra work into IX after not doing it on any of the other re-releases.

Same happened with IX and part of the problem is that Squaresoft relied heavily on contractors after VII to get a lot of the work done, particularly artwork. So, despite the source files actually being 2-10 times the resolution of the game files, we’re stuck with arrested development of the best Final Fantasy games.

It’s a damn good game with a battle system that was ahead of its time and just needed to be fleshed out more. Leveling GFs for abilities and stats should have been a home run, for instance.

The main man behind the Gameboy’s success was given a “free” project to do as he wanted, no barriers. Nintendo then pulled the rug out from under him and gave him barriers and demanded it make money at the outset instead.

I’m overwhelmed and overjoyed with the sheer amount of content in this release. It could be better on the adventure/spirit/single player aspect but damn if it isn’t impressive and feature rich all the same.

I was ready to disagree since last time I was in the market for battery packs it was $1 per 1,000 mAh for dumb packs like this and $2-$2.50 for PD or equivalent ones. Guess prices have gone up again. So not a horrible deal if you want to buy a brand with trusted cells and passable warranty service.
