Like the hopeless sci-fi worshiping nerd that I am, I LOVE that NASA continues to exist despite a formidable tidal wave of conservative asshattery, and I hope that in the future we decide as a nation and as a world to prioritize space (and deep sea) exploration.
I'm pretty sure one major reason (among many of course, le sigh) that women are unlikely to ever feel fully comfortable in their own skins is that no matter WHAT they choose to do they'll be analyzed incessantly by others... and by other women nonetheless, as the judgeyjudgejudge comments below so obviously show...

Agreed, well-put!! I skimmed the comments in the CNN article, and they were nothing less than deeply troubling - it's disappointing how closed-minded humanity can be, I hope that we manage grow out of this depressingly and childishly discriminatory phase as soon as possible.

What I think bothers me most about much of the reporting on this tragedy is that almost no attention is given to the fact that Steenkamp was a law school graduate, a women's rights activist, and a frankly all-around great person.
