People say, “Your movie’s not just a gay movie.” I’m like, “But it is a gay movie.”

This week Sanne Wevers finished her (gold medal winning) balance beam routine and started calculating her score on paper. The dumb guy NBC commentator some thing about her writing in her diary and the gal NBC commentator (who is likely a former gymnast) had to correct him and explain she was checking her score. She

BobbySerious, Gawker’s resident rape apologist/rapist*, once explained at length that he didn’t care how many peer-reviewed studies showed that women do drastically more housework than men — he knows for a fact that he and his friends do AT LEAST half the housework in their homes, and that’s WAY better evidence than

The perception gap is so fucking real and goddamn depressing. We see it on a macro and micro level.

They should have taken the poll further and asked whether or not they thought women now had an advantage over men because of “reverse sexism” or whatever the hell they call it. I bet the numbers would have been quite illuminating.

So, what you’re saying is the institution of slavery is just fine, because at least the slaves know what to expect from day to day, as opposed to being able to make choices for themselves.

Cuz I’m sure I’d prefer to be born in NK than in some African countries but that’s just me...

Human Rights Watch as well as Amnesty International have cited the human rights violations in North Korea as unparalleled in the modern world. So, no, there are no other countries, in the Middle East, Africa, or otherwise, that are 10x worse.

I try not to let my intelligence show too often.

And that right there is why people talk shit about NK more often than countires in Africa and the Middle East.

10x worse? Name a country in Africa or the Middle East where you can’t leave and if you escape your family is thrown into a concentration camp.

the gist of his comment was: “why can’t this article be about something else??”

Which African/Middle Eastern countries are worse than North Korea? And how are they “worse”? I take away from this comment you know very little about Africa, the Middle East, or North Korea.

Oh god, definitely don't make your SO your only source of socialization. That's a recipe for disaster.

The problem with this argument is that literally nobody thinks the people of North Korea are somehow “bad.” This isn’t some cultural misunderstanding, nobody’s sitting there going “Gee, man, I don’t know about those 5 year-old North Korean dirt farmers. They seem pretty sketchy.”

*Posts contradictory comment clearly meant to incite angry responses. Takes angry responses as case in point.*

You are the one who brought skinny-shaming into the discussion where it didn’t need to be. You and your humblebrag can have several seats.

To add to this: my body is not INdecent because it is not thin. It very decently does its thing and carts my brain around successfully.

“ I can’t tell you how many people, actual strangers felt the need to actually go to her and comment on her weight. . . . No one would do that to an overweight person”

This this this! I was going to reply stating the use of “decent body”, as a contrast to average-to-plus, was a value judgement we did not need.
