I own every Pixar movie on Bluray (unless it has the word “Cars” in it).

Contracting agencies don’t have to provide healthcare (& they don’t). They put you on scheduled contracts which can last 12 - 3 months, which somehow skirts having to provide healthcare because the law considers you self employed.
not disagreeing
Still beats living in the midwest (or Florida).
1 hour driving, 2 hours on CalTrain, 1 hour walking.
Technically unemployment is at 4.7%, in reality it’s closer to 8.6% (that doesn’t include part time, underemployment, and the long term unemployed). With the middle class disappearing, and stagnant wages, it’s tough to make ends meet, especially when you have contractors and H1-B visas to compete with.
Not responsible, but they’re definitely making a bad situation worse rather than better.
Finding good work anywhere is tough. It’s expensive to live out here, but at least we have jobs.
I’m curious where they’d move to to find work. At least there’s jobs out here.
I’d like to see how you make ends meet on $78K out here.
You obviously don’t live in Silicon Valley. I make $100K/year (one person), and I have to commute 2 hours so I can “afford” my $1,600/month 296 sq. ft. studio (that normally goes for $2K). Luckily I don’t have a grocery bill because they feed me at work, but I can’t afford cable or internet.
Are there jobs in Toronto?
More like $700,000 for a shitty 2bed 1bath
Housing was ridiculous here before FaceBook ever existed. We just get better press about it now.
Contracting agencies don’t provide healthcare (that’s why contracting is so popular for companies). Covered California costs $300/month minimum for basic.
If we allowed the market to work out here, we’d be another Manhattan. I’d rather bitch about housing so I can keep my trees and nature.
The problem is the state has been in violation of providing affordable housing foe years. Home builders would rather pay fines than build affordable units.
Rent is upwards of $2K/month for a 300 sq. ft. studio. The average house price? $800,000 . People easily pay +$200 month on a 2 hour commute. That’s tight even on a $100K salary, and forget free time.
That’s the dirty secret of Silicon Valley, contractors.
Gladly. I’ll hang out on my sunny 78 degree beach with no humidity, while you can continue to enjoy your mosquitos and -40 degree snowdrifts.
