I personally love these and think this was a nice mid-size truck with a very solid drivetrain under it. I’d also happily own one in a hot minute.
I think the smaller engine would favor city driving a lot more than highway. I think the 45-60mph range would favor the smaller engine too. Course you only get savings if you keep out of the boost. The V8 can eat up a bunch of fuel if you drive it like a tool too.

That HFE test is essentially geared to give the NA displacement engine a huge advantage. That is the situation best suited for displacement.
