My stock trick is the slow cooker. I keep a bag of veggies in the freezer— the ends of onions, asparagus, kale ribs, carrot ends, etc, and when the bag is full I dump it in the slow cooker with my latest chicken bones before bed. Wake up in the morning and BLAMMO: chicken stock.

We popped into Hillsdale, their town in Utah, when we were driving to Utah. Most of the houses in town were unfinished, just exposed plywood and Tyvek paneling. Apparently this is because if a house is still under construction you don’t have to pay property tax on it. These guys are some real experts at grift.
