57 feet in 3.5 seconds is a little over 11 mph. thats the only figure that matters. the fact that it dips into the water afterwards doesnt matter since that entire time its slowing down. and that de-acceleration takes about 2 seconds over say half the width, ~30 ft... 15 ft/s^2 is like ~0.5g - thats nothing!

i beg to differ. doesnt look like the bridge (or the entire ship for that matter) saw that much of a g-load at all. a bump right when it hits the water but nothing to kill people easily... youve got a lot of mass on your side when a ship if falling with you.
