That's a really good point, and curious how much of that is due to Welles coming late to production and being a hassle to work with.
Oh, if it's nostalgia bait it's probably best if it's actually scary to accommodate for adult's increased tolerance for that stuff, but I just like the idea of kids having another access point at horror like I did with monster squad and such.
No, just me being an idiot. But I think I'll take up your offer, it classes up my comment.
In the past year, I've been catching up on some horror movies that I didn't realize were kind of cult classics, notably Tales from the Darkside and Tourist Trap. I'm watching them, I'm enjoying them, but I'm getting a strange… itch. A strange sense of familiarity. Then, I realize - oh shit, I watched this back on Sci…
I don't know, Harry is so dripping with a sexual charisma, I totally believed that he'd be able to get a girl like Anna and Joseph wouldn't stand a chance. He's a lost puppy to her, not a legitimate sexual partner.
I have to say, it wasn't as shocking as it probably was for a 1940s audience, but it did surprise me quite a bit - I was (thankfully) along for the ride, more distracted by Joseph Cotten's fumbling attempts to solve the mystery. I was definitely shocked, though the cat moment I assumed was the opening to another…
I disagree on the R-rating thing, because I want kids to go crazy over Goosebumps (or at least horror movies) like I did as a kid.
Why reread them when the dude puts them out faster than you could read? At least, that's how I felt as a kid.
Seeing parts of horror movies as a kid on TV definitely helped, but I credit Goosebumps (books + the show) books for actually getting me into horror movies.
Sounds like you were the real dummy here, Ricky. You're the dummy.
Saw it as a child, and I don't think it scared me at all.
Have you seen Mr. Show?

I kind of like the badly erased bat-ears. It's kind of a punk move to leave little remnants of what you see as a publisher censoring you.
Let's not be all puritanical here.
Thanks for explaining some of the science behind it. In my head, it was way more common sense "if you don't get the right does of medicine, you die" kind of explanation, but it's nice to have a bit more context.
But the goofiness is why I like it? I think it's got a wonderful sense of humor for these kind of movies.
If the flags are full of SEMTEX than I don't see any more problem with this.
In my dream world, we have 4 GDT clones who are all highly successful, well-funded, and work together beautifully.
