For a new car, sure. I get the impression that most jalop’s cars are not qualified for one, due to them being 2-3 yrs or older models. Also, one thing I have learned is never buy a gap insurance through your dealer but through your own insurance company.

Thanks for the info! So RC is basically a gap insurance. So it seems this person in the article won’t be helped even if his car gets totaled, seeing how his truck is worth less than 17k (probably too old). Not that this person would have gotten an RC anyways.

This comment got me thinking. Let’s say your car catches on fire from a real accident. Your car is valued at 10k when your loan balance is 15k. Reservation is for a six-figure car. I don’t think any potential buyers are going to have an issue with 5k. In comparison Tesla’s 1k reservation was for a 35k+ model 3. Now, putting down a 5k deposit for a company like FF? That’s another story.

I would think manufactures would care more about their image and customer relations than someone’s multi brand dealership that preaches their own sales techniques. Also just think about how much better QC (system/layout/practice) is controlled at a manufacturers versus any dealership you can think of.
