I read Wired as a teenager. It had a huge impact on me. I don’t think I was capable of seeing the level of betrayal that Curtin talks about (I hadn’t really watched much SNL at that time) but in the ‘80s, there was very much an idea of “don’t warn teens about drugs, they don’t like being lectured to.” All I can say

And they’re allllllllll coming out from under the bridge to make sure we all know how boring they find women’s soccer, now that the WWC is starting. Any article, anywhere, there’s that dude whining about women’s sports.

    Oooh, you brought receipts!

My family lived in South Florida when I was a child. It’s certainly a beautiful state but the whole reason we moved was because—yeah, it’s Florida. Just a hot mess in every sense of the word.

So, basically 19 Children and Counting, including the slap on the wrist the oldest son got for assaulting his sisters.

You went to Cranbrook - that’s a private school / What’s the matter, dog? / You’re embarrassed? / This guy’s a gangster? / His real name is Clarence / Now Clarence lives at home with both parents / And Clarence’s parents have a real good marriage...

This is such a sweet article. I adored my Barbies and still have most of them. Needless to say, I can’t wait to see the movie!

But as Buzzfeed noted in 2021, terms that originate in Black communities, like “cancel” and “woke,” are often “stripped of their original, more nuanced meanings among Black people.” In some ways, Pick Me has gone the route of “Karen”—another gendered critique that went from confronting the ways white women uphold and

Yeah, it’s weird how it seems a fair amount of people are trying to paint him badly in this situation. I’ve seen people accusing him of “inserting himself into the conversation” and denying his expertise. Now they’re trying to make him into a ghoul capitalizing on a tragedy. I’m no particular fan of Cameron’s

As for the X-Files, that was actually the first “episode” of the show that I ever saw, and I enjoyed it so much I started watching the show afterwards. I still love that movie.

Once there I even had a caller who, I quickly realized, was trying to figure out how we would speak to his partner were she to call so that he could use that against her.

Uh, I still call them that--what is the more current term? Swim suit? (Genuinely asking here.)

    That is fucking brilliant!

I dunno. Even JFK Jr. couldn’t get into Harvard.

Totally agree. I’ve seen DPS many times and don’t remember it’s being set in Vermont—I do know it was filmed in Delaware. OTOH White Christmas is famously set in Vermont (even if it was filmed on a soundstage).

I thought the exact same thing. If you’re gonna also-mention Mystic River, you have to include GWH.

Most of the movie takes place in New York though. I’m rereading Prince of Tides right now and it’s depressing how much good stuff they left out of the movie. And IMO The Big Chill, with all those self-involved Boomers, has aged like milk. I would’ve chosen Great Santini.

(I realize how on the nose that is, but applies to their weaknesses as well.)

So much this. He’s the space fantasy version of Gene Roddenberry.

    October is effing BUSY.
