I can’t say that Barry Sanders was the best running back ever. I can say that I’ve seen a lot of great running backs, but even among them, Barry Sanders routinely, week by week, did things that would be the greatest play of those other running backs’ careers, and that would literally kill me to attempt. Phrases like

Ewoks are Exhibit “A” in the concept known as “dissonance of framing.” Dissonance of framing is what happens when the camera, using film language, tells you one thing, while what the text says is something else. Lindsay Ellis actually had a great video about this w/r/t the Transformers films, where she pointed out

That’s the kicker: everyone here on this website is wwwaaayyy outside the norm for this country in their ability to ideologically sort candidates. A majority of voters have either no real ability, or interest, in sorting candidates on the basis of a coherent ideology. They choose their candidates on idiosyncratic

To be fair, I did think there were some subtle choices that were spot on.

Yeah, it’s sort of like those bits of old folk wisdom that kinda, sometimes make sense, but not for the reason they think. Like, going outside in winter time with wet hair will not in itself make you sick. That’s not how germ theory works. But it might make you cold, and you might need to spend more time indoors

Respectfully, you’re talking about the lady who once called for “blood and teeth” to be knocked out on the Senate floor rather than accept a toothless Consumer Financial Protection Bureau. Yeah, she’s someone I’d like to have a beer with; she honestly sounds like a hoot in person. But I’m primarily supporting her

So, it’s a Turing Test repurposed as a date simulator?

Honestly? I read it as Warren attempting to muscle into her own lane in the center-left.

Bernie is not my first choice for the primary, but Bernie, full-stop, is not pie-in-the-sky. And the best way to talk yourself down is to remember that.

Good point, and fair question. I usually use “Walt”, after Walter White from Breaking Bad. The best part is, Walts don’t usually even know that’s not a complimentary comparison.

Joe, it’s only a bill. Sitting there on Capitol Hill, as I recall.

It’s a bit more hard-edged version of my usual retort: “What about the children?”

In my understanding, the deer of the NW are much larger than those in GA.

You know what, that’s more than a fair point. I was incorrect, and I retract my stratement. The best you can say is that Bloomberg is seen as “white” by the same talking heads that also see him as “electable.” That is not a privilege that everyone will afford him. I should have been more accurate, and I do apologize.

Admittedly, I saw that film early into my foray into horror movies, and I never came back to it like I should have, but that was my recollection as well. Whether the religion in question encourages shagging like bunnies, or complete chastity, ultimately it’s all the same so long as the people in charge harness those
