The man who killed them cared. All the other people in this world who hate LGBT people care. It’s important not to erase who the victims were. But I bet that every time an unarmed black kid is killed by the cops, you get annoyed by the fact that the story mentions his race. Because you don’t see color, and you don’t

What news are you reading? Everywhere I’ve read and watched mentioned that the massacre happened at a gay nightclub.

Cool story. I liked the part where you forgot which person you were condescending at. I haven't said a word about transgender vs cisgender.

We’re not talking about pronouns; legal documentation already commonly uses gender neutral language when it needs to use pronouns (singular they), but avoids pronouns in almost all circumstances because they’re already inherently ambiguous.

Law changes all the time; you’re not going to convince me that it can’t handle

I have neither the time nor the inclination to further debate with you whether English can “handle” the wringer through which trans folks folks are putting it. The fact that we are talking about these concepts means we can, using this language. It will expand to hold the “new” (to you) concepts that trans folks bring

Byte me.

I know! This person is basically arguing that English can't change enough to handle trans folks, which is absurd. Language evolves to define concepts. Since we can talk about the concept, the language has de facto managed to describe it. End of discussion.

I still don’t hear any reason why it’s “artificial”. We had Blu-rays and HD-DVDs for a while. We used to call microwaves RadarRanges or electric ovens, before settling on the current usage. Hastags were also called pound signs until Twitter blew them up. You’re making the argument that people who are talking about

Nope, you are wrong. “Cis” indicates it is the same gender as they are born, it has nothing to do with normality. And “trans” indicates that their gender is different from the one they were born with, again, nothing to do with normality.

English changed a lot in the last 5 years? I’m writing the same way I did back in 2000. How the hell are you and I communicating?

Except that’s not what cisgender or transgender mean. Cis means “this side,” so cisgender is someone whose gender corresponds to the gender they were born with. Trans means “across,” so transgender is someone whose gender has changed from what their birth gender was. It’s not saying that they are not normal.

*excited vibrating*

It’s not a stand-in, it’s been commonly used as a gender-neutral pronoun for decades. Use context clues to determine singular or plural. Maybe someone will come up with a better idea, but a homonym for a male pronoun isn’t it.

In speech, how would hy/hym/hys be distinguishable from he/him/his? If they wouldn’t, that would be more confusing than the singular they.

Strange how some people get riled up about issues that don’t have any negative effects on their lives - while ignoring those issues that do.

I feel u Gabrielle. I’ve been bloated and some dude had the nerve to ask me if I was pregnant. And I was like “Nope.” And the lady behind him called him a bitch.

No way. Easter is a totally original holiday that early Christians thought up all on their own.

To celebrate the return of spring?

Wow wow wow 1 it’s a joke. 2 It ends with him rising from the dead which is what we call “Easter”... unless you know something I don’t that’s pretty much it. They could make a movie from then to the ascension but that’s not a whole lot of meat to follow up The Passion with. It’s like 20 pages long. So no.

I think he needs to go back and read the book. He obviously forgets how it ended.
