I think they don't actually know how to enjoy games anymore so the only metric they have for judging games is looking at technical details and getting mad when they aren't as good as the technical details for other games

Gen 1 player here to tell you that voltorb, geodude and grimer were all based on inanimate objects. So the series continuing with that tradition of animal based and object based pokemon is great and ties in with the mythology of the series.
