Sauerkraut is eaten with all kinds of sausage in Germany (that’s where we get our hotdogs with sauerkraut and mustard tradition from) and it’s not intended cover up the flavor of the meat. The sausages are quite tasty on their own.

That’s a pretty absurd argument. Almost every food I can think of is enhanced in its flavor by spices, sauces, toppings, etc. A great tasting hotdog topped with good mustard and sauerkraut is even better.

You can’t legislate technology into existence, but if there is no requirement you can be sure that very little effort will go into creating the technology. Sometimes it takes legislation to get the cart rolling.
