tbf, it was an adaptation of a book, and that decision was made by the author of the book. I think maybe the book explained why he did that in more detail, but I thought the film did a great job of adapting a pretty dense book overall.

Re the point about visual effects- this is a small point, but I don't think it's that they don't matter if the script is terrible, more that it feels like they're wasted when it is. I still appreciate them, I just wonder why writing sometimes seems to be the one thing that often gets left out of an otherwise…

I don't understand the term dramedy. Is it drama-comedy or drama-tragedy? I feel like a portmanteau should be unambiguous.

I enjoyed this film well enough, it was better than most romcoms.
Oscars and other awards are stupid and arbitrary, though, so I knd of can't get behind worrying about whether one thing or another is worthy of some meaningless award.

In othr Star Wars news, I had to google BB8 today and I found out that if you google BB8 you will see cute pictures of babies dressed up as BB8.

In London we had several months of announcements on the buses from the mayor asking if we would mind not travelling so as to make way for Olympic ticket holders, who were to be prioritised over working Londoners. (I worked in an office literally next door to an Olympic venue at the time, for my sins).
