Jesus Christ, the editor didn’t write that fucking comment as a dissertation piece - its a god damned comment in the margin of a Microsoft Word document, and one of hundreds. But sure, write three paragraphs about one specific comment about the content of a multi-page manuscript, and make ridiculous judgments and

Never said this music was independent. All the examples that came to mind when I wrote that are on labels, some of them major labels. “Mainstream” is an amorphous concept nowadays anyway, and the poster above even complained about “popular indie/alternative [kinds] of music,” suggesting they were not solely talking

“Alexa... Play angry white teenager music, like we had in 1985.”

I see the Royal Shakespeare Company productions broadcast in movie theaters all the time. Sure it’s not exactly the same as seeing it live, but it’s a lot more accessible than flying to London for it. They also show opera regularly in movie theaters. They could easily do it with musicals if they wanted to.

I’m gonna get raked over hot coals for this but I kind of think that productions like these play a very shitty game of saying “EVERYONE SHOULD SEE THIS” and “SUCH AN IMPORTANT AND MOVING SHOW” and then jacking their prices up like crazy due to a completely dumb artificial scarcity.

It always irks me when film critics complain that an adaptation of a play or musical is “stagebound” or not “cinematic” enough. It’s going to be the only way some of us get to see them.

Well, what else do you expect when Broadway shows are, by their very nature, an art that few get to experience live considering you need to a) have the money to get to NYC, b) have the money to stay there or nearby, c) have the vacation time to, d) have the money to buy tickets (yes, you can lottery, but that’s not

He doesn’t get hate for being humanitarian and you know it. He gets hate for being egotistical, for continuing to pump out studio albums long after he stopped having anything to say, and in this case for being a sexist twit.

Alright I’ll say it: what’s wrong with hip hop being the genre for young male rage? It partially started as a way to express that.

This would probably be my advice for any guy who feels that the world is just waiting for them to give voice to their manly rage

Also, metal still exists.

The comment about rock music being “girly” isn’t nearly as eggregious as the claim that what the world needs now is for more white males to express their anger. Right now, angry white males need to go take a timeout and sit in a corner for a few years

...the fuck was it ever NOT “attack Bono time” post-2002?

I gotta be that guy: TL;DR: using the Old Testament to impugn evangelical Christians won’t mean much to them and might mark you as ignorant of their faith. Many of the religious right are evangelicals. According to them, (generalizing, I’d couse) the New Testament is the authority over the Old Testament. They’re

U2’s sound is not girly. It’s a post-punk musical style that evolved into a stadium-based anthemic guitar-based sound, and then in the mid-1990s, evolved into a tax haven in the Netherlands for the band’s publishing arm, and finally, in 2007, into a tax-avoiding shell company in Malta that Bono used to buy a shopping

Coincidentally, I finally got Songs of Innocence out of my iTunes library this month after the millionth time I put my phone on shuffle and found myself thinking, “what the fuck is this shit?”.

I would watch a live feed of this editor working in real time. Seriously.

Handy reminder that having a British accent doesn’t mean you’re smart.

“It’s no wonder that gingers convert to Islam in such high numbers.”

Holy shit, and I thought my dissertation was poorly written. Maybe it’s not a good idea to give a huge advance to someone who is only famous for being an asshole?
