Thank you for being a voice of reason in this debate. I don’t even know if you are team pie or cake, but facts are facts: pie crust is hard to get right, and bad pie crust will ruin a pie. #teamcake, because I can trust a cake. Even bad cake tastes like cake. Bad pie tastes like sadness.

This is a fair point, and I love apple pie, but I have had MANY mediocre/bad ones. You say it is not “that hard” to make, which, ingredients-wise I can agree, but I am steadfast in my belief that pies, particularly pie crusts, are easy to get very wrong. Yes! Frosting is a lovely complement to cake in reasonable proportions, but too much of it is disgusting. And completely overwhelms the cake, which should be the whole point.

Yes! Good cake doesn’t need frosting, but can be improved with a reasonable amount of frosting. If you have to pile the frosting twice as high as the cake, you are doing it wrong.
