My take on Tillerson is that he came into the position with the idea that he’d run the State Department like a corporation, and then just dug in his heels when it became clear the organization wouldn’t work like that. He’s done incredible harm to the organization, even if he hasn’t been a grandstanding clown about it.

Here’s the real mess: while everything you say is true, he’s being replaced with Mike Pompeo. Who is being replaced in his role at the CIA with Tom Cotton.
