Since the car will last the entire shift, I don’t think 1 hour charging is really going to make a difference, especially if it is done while they are on a lunch break.

I am well aware a car is not insulated but the AC does not need to keep to full throttle to maintain temperature. Your home is actually not that insulated either.

It was given free. What car can be gotten cheaper than free?

Obviously to purchase it won’t make much sense, but hence why they say they are testing for future when prices come down.

Here is a picture of the full thing:

Why is it not a practical cop car? It has plenty of advantages.

What long hour pursuits? They don’t pursue outside their jurisdiction. Once out of jurisdiction, other cops take over.

The climate control does not take up that much power to maintain. Most of the hit is the initial dropping of temperature (I say dropping cause it don’t get cold enough there to heat). This would generally be done at HQ so precooled off the grid. After that it is all about maintaining temperature.

A patrol is mostly city driving. They can go around it all day on 1 charge.

The 24% more weight number is made up. Looking at weight number of cars it is far less than that.

What invalidates this study is the 24% number that seems to have come out of thin air.

What is that 24% number based on?

Looking at some curb weights

Kia Soul = 2,787–3,144 lb
Kia Soul EV = 3,289 lb

Ford got a 5.9 billion ATVM loan, they also got 15.9 billion as part of the banking bailout from the federal reserve. Not to mention part of the bailout included automotive suppliers as well, many of which were Ford.

The Volt would probably be more tempting if it was not made by GM. Who has a pretty solid history of trying to sabotage electric cars. And we are not even talking about old events but recent events as well.

I am not following you anywhere. And the one who seems to be making baseless accusations here is you.

Even your history in this article is itself is enough. You seem to be taking every opportunity to take a swipe at electric cars and Tesla. But sure, do show me where you attack other automakers? You making generic statements is not an indicator of being unbiased on the topic. The issue is who you chose to name.

Actions speak louder than words. You seem to only be complaining in Tesla’s case and giving a pass for the others. That speaks volume.

There is really not much special about the deals, for example, the gigafactory is over 2X below average per employee as far as megadeals are concerned. Again, you are creating a double standard where somehow Tesla is suppose to compete unsubsidized vs their highly subsidized competition.

So laws of physics such as conservation of energy be damned?

I got one question. Which cars got 105 miles?

No, since cold temperatures prevent the car from reading accurately the data until it warms up, it limits the charge RATE. But it does not have any impact on capacity because again physics!
