Not an exclusive Tesla issue. I know of two ICE vehicles that have done the same thing. One was completely phantom. The other would lock up the brakes at metal lids (sewer, phone, etc.). 

Ice fires require a few hundred gallons to extinguish.  EV fires average 25,000 gallons and continued monitoring. EV fire can be fought in a metro environment.  Good luck fighting an EV fire any distance from a fire hydrant. 

Some EV's have a recommended service interval to grease the caliper slide pin regardless of usage. 

Drum brakes might make a comeback for electric cars. Drums are easy to incorporate regenerative brakes.
