Only if you think that white men are meant to be the heroes of the show. I sincerely doubt that to be the case.
I’m a different kind of BVTS/ATS fan: Angel was easily my favorite show of the two, yet Angel probably isn't in my top ten Buffyverse characters.
Even then, networks would kill for a consistent performer like that.

Yet if you replace slave with woman, and Confederate with Handmaid’s Tale, you still have a provocative and feminist show that’s fantastically made.
I mean, in Bones’ case, viewership kept growing. It took until the show’s ninth season before its average viewership dropped below what it was in it’s first season. That’s pretty impressive, even if the show just got straightforwardly bad sometime around season seven.
