If you focus on the best writer there is a chance you hire a black person. If you focus on diversity, there is no chance you hire a white person, even if that person is the best writer.

Imagine he wants to hire a new writer and the one he likes the best is a white man. Does that mean he is a racist? Should he hire someone he thinks is less talented in order to satisfy diversity requirements? How do you think a minority would feel if you hired them because they were a minority?

The comedy scene is not diverse. Therefore, if they did as you wish, and specifically focused on a women or a minority, they would be excluding a large amount of the potential talent. It’s easy to call for hiring quotas when your ass isn’t on the line.
