He got his ass kicked all the time, and by the end of Claremont's run he was basically a walking wreck, never fully healing and barely in touch with reality. That annual with the magic crystal wasn't representative of how his powers worked, it was magic.

Yes exactly. A lot of the Daily Show is just empty mugging, whereas Colbert really sells a solid 15 minutes of material every night. I almost never watch Colbert's in- studio interviews though. The pre-taped stuff like better know a district are usually great though.
