But you couldn’t get the VTEC in Frog Green if I recall. You needed the 160 ponies screaming at the world to get the frack out of the way. The SI was a let down compared to the VTEC.

That’s something I didn’t think I’d read when I woke up today. Or ever really.
I think you underestimate the effect the power rear window will have on air flow. Its the one thing I miss most from my old del Sol. The ability to accurately control the interior temp & air flow with just the one window was significant. Almost didn’t need the AC.
I really miss that power rear window the most in that car. Oh, and the VTEC. Always the VTEC.
The power retracting roof was only available in Asia I believe as an option. Some folks tried to get the parts and install it in the US but it was a nightmare mod if I remember correctly.
RUN AWAY. A coworker of mine bought an R129 that was in good shape and a reasonable price. Within a few years he spent more than the purchase price on repairs and maintenance (between 3-5yrs). We always gave him a hard time about how often he had to miss work to visit the mechanic. It was a money pit even when it…
Its been stuck in my head for the last hour. I’ll probably sing it on my drive home.
Normally I would agree with you, however, the police established no crime was committed prior to asking for the DL. I think that changes the interaction from traffic stop to consensual interaction (especially if the driver/vehicle is now on his own property not on the public roadway). US v Rodriguez “Authority for the…
This is silly. There is literally no benefit to you to providing your ID if its not legally required. None!
All of this is correct. However, the pertinent part is there is no benefit to showing your ID. Its not like you show your ID and then they discover you won the Publisher’s Clearinghouse contest but weren’t notified. Only bad things can happen if you show your ID. The best case scenario is you waste your time.
“There is no harm done. There is no cost.”
No, this is wrong. It first depends on why/how you are interacting with the authorities, then the state/jurisdiction you are in.
“What worries you so much about showing your ID? If you don’t have warrants, why try and hide?”
My guess is very mandatory. Further I suspect the EPA/Customs requires the fix be very difficult to retrograde so everyone won’t run to their APR dealer and get a tune to remove the fix.
Wrong. The EPA could tell Customs the cars were illegally imported. Customs tells the FBI to impound all the cars. The FBI could create a BOLO for every TDI with instructions to impound them. Extreme? Yes, but its possible. They aren’t doing that because it will irreparably harm half a million Americans more than it…
The EPA and/or Customs. These cars were imported illegally against federal regulations. They could force you to fix them or impound them to be destroyed. They could forfeit your state registration and flag every car for immediate impound. That’s not practical, but it could be done.
Best explanation yet. Thanks.
Or it could be the opposite. The tuners could create any crazy profile they wanted b/c “test mode” would cover all manner of sins when smog testing can around.
I suspect that maybe this neutered test dyno mode is actually why all VW cars seem to have lesser dyno HP numbers than what the butt dyno tells you on the road.
Actually I would say that’s quite a lot.
