Rowdy Roddy Piper.
Marlee's commercial was terrible. John Rich's was cheesy (and his acting was terrible) but at least his had a clear beginning, middle, and end and the Dee Snyder thing was novel enough. Marlee's was Geoffrey Holder and a bunch of unfunny bits about '70s stereotypes.
Richard Hatch
Was actually probably the most competent person Marlee drafted. You'd think she would have learned from teaming with Meat Loaf, letting him control the creative direction of the task, and losing in the very last challenge.
I think we'll see at least one more year out of Kenan, though I keep forgetting just how long he's been around too (I was shocked when on an SNL retrospective I saw him in a sketch with Jimmy Fallon). Pharoah isn't polished enough to be The Black Guy.
Yeah, the punchline was awful. Everything before it I was amused by, especially the hatred of Portugal.
I will admit that I always, always, always pronounce his name wrong.
I liked it more the first time because it committed a lot more to being creepy as shit (part of that was probably Jim Carrey being naturally creepy), whereas this time they seemed to go for being wacky more than creepy.
Cold Open
I actually liked it. It's a concept pretty much plucked from a dozen Monty Python bits but that's because it works. Jay Pharoah was definitely off on some of his cues, though.
I liked her but she didn't get material that really reflected anything about her character as well as, say, James Spader and Ray Romano got. Spader was fantastic but if they want to cast someone as a lead his character really doesn't strike me as one that's viable in the long-term.
That wasn't the Buddha, that was a sumo wrestler.
Also when Sue said Will had a "pure heart" that plotline also died a big death for me. But that was in like the last minute.
The nice things I can say about this episode
1. That run of showcase songs for Naya Rivera, Chris Colfer, and especially Amber Riley and Lea Michelle, was great. Probably the most I've enjoyed the music in an episode of Glee all season outside of "Duets."
2. It's nice that Jane Lynch was able to get an episode in where…
Jared on Ain't No Mountain High Enough
The very worst I have ever heard that song done. He made it sound sleazy. Nobody benefited from having to do that song; something about the arrangement and having to sing opposite Jared made Elenowen sound horrible and listless, so really they lost from not doing as well as they…
Killing a fucking shark that had latched on to his arm was amazing. Plus he actually seemed to be stronger in challenges in All-Stars than in Borneo.
Apprentice is also a Mark Burnett show so it's definitely not that. I too think it's the tax thing, which is a pity. I'm watching All-Stars now and his run on the season was absolutely fantastic.
Speaking of Survivor winners
Since America's Next Great Restaurant is dead and buried and there is no token Celebrity Apprentice thread, I just want to say here that Richard Hatch is hilarious on the Celebrity Apprentice finale playing the deadpan bystander "why is everyone on this show insane" guy.
Andy, holy crap! I didn't know you comment here, we used to be friends on LJ and I was a member of Top Five Reviews.
Probst
"For my money, in 22 seasons, that's as close to a perfect game as anybody's ever played on Survivor."
Sue Hawk also sort-of campaigned for Richard Hatch in Borneo, albeit not without calling him a failure at life and a smug ashole.
