If we’re stuck with tablets in cars I wish it were an ipad/android tablet. Then you could replace it/upgrade it.

having worked in those dealership service departments, the struggle is more real than you might think. I once made $8 in a month because of a lack of vehicles to work on. Warranty work doesn’t pay much either.

The same people buying (or, more likely, leasing) a Yukon Denali or Escalade.

Nobody is stupid enough to spend $90k on the same exact car that’s available for almost $40k less minus some extra leather trim.

And a monorail.

I’m sure I’ll get lots of push-back on this, but in a world where the Rivian R1S, and the Model X and Y exist, these things are going to depreciate catastrophically.

At some point, you could likely just compare the two and get the clicks without jumping straight into begging for hate clicks. Some of your comparisons are also verging into being outright disingenuous as a result.

Yeah I’ve thought about that too, but unfortunately the solution cannot possibly be self-centered and short-sighted. The simple fact of the matter is that the Western world needs to reduce it’s consumption of pretty much everything. Instead we blame poor people in poor countries.

Or as George Carlin put it more cynically, “the planet isn’t going anywhere - we are.”

What apple could bring, and I wish they would bring but probably can’t because they’d never work with android, is a car OS.

4th Gear:

1. Lube Chassis (Who does this?)

Last week, my best friend and I test-drove a Mustang Mach-E First Edition at Metro Ford of Oklahoma City. The salesperson knew many of the most common questions anyone would ask (trim, range, colors, AWD vs RWD, prices, and how to operate the basic features). The stuff he didn’t know, he straight-up admitted he didn’t

I flush mine yearly, but I also do autocross and track days. I would recommend every other year for brake fluid change if you are in a humid climate. The brake fluid will still absorb moisture and cause corrosion issues. Given that EVs can go easily 100k between brake pad changes, waiting that long for any type of

I would imagine there are very few greasable joints on that vehicle. The brake fluid should be done, but rarely is. I won’t lie, on my commuter car, I’m pretty lazy about rotating my tires. Its almost entirely highway miles. I only rotate when I swap summer tires for snow tires

It amazes me how much noise exists around reducing/eliminating car emissions, when they are such a small piece of the global emissions pie. The industry is regulated to nearly impossible ends and it seems very little is being done to address the other, much bigger sectors from which pollutants enamate.

Honestly, most sales people will have absolutely no clue about maintenance intervals even on a regular ICE powered car.

It’s not like a lot of these are out on the market, nor are there any manufacturer incentives for employees to buy them over their ICE compatriots to get them out there and spark a conversation about

Most sales people can’t answer detailed questions about any of their models. I have never been on a lot shopping where I didn’t know vastly more than the sales person about the car I was looking for. These guys/gals float dealer to dealer and rarely stay up on current/detailed product info. They know a few highlights

Planes account for a good deal of it, too. But there’s no reason we can’t work on all sources at the same time.
