I just use my fingers on it in the shower when I cowash with conditioner. I pretty much never brush my hair. If I do it’s because I’m not washing it, it’s going into a ponytail/bun and I’m smoothing it down.

I don’t think I’ve ever heard anyone pronounce crayon that way and I’m wasabi from LA and MS. It’s definitely not a common pronunciation even in the south.
