I bought one of these new in ‘88 after prices dropped because of the ‘roll-over’ scare. An awesomely reliable vehicle, had way too much fun and wish I’d kept it.

MPG is one of the reasons why, despite the fact I’m a fan of Hondas, having owned four cars & as many motorcycles over the years, I picked a Toyota Tundra 5.7l 6sp auto over the last gen Ridgeline. I didn’t need 400 hp, but all that AND better mpg? Yes please. And surprisingly, my lead footed driving style still gets…
I approve, the fabrication looks pretty good, and a battery kill switch & some tire slime will fix it’s ills. “You had me at ‘Minigun”...
Interesting that Ijust finish reading that 40% of all US cars will be SUVs & crossovers by 2020 and this doesn’t even come in an AWD version. Guess MINI will have to step up with a Countryman Baja package...
As much as I think the Cayman is Porsche’s best true sports car I can guarantee that the difference in the next 10 years of maintenance & insurance will make the Miata look like a little better. Not saying the Cayman isn’t a great deal, but the Miata is rear wheel drive open top roadster fun that’s as cheap as a Camry…
I simply MUST have this vehicle to ferry me out to the Zepplin proving grounds...
For me the best parts of Top gear were the three way challenges, especially when they involved buying budget cars & doing ridiculous modifications. When TG:USA tried this, they all felt scripted, and when the prize was a drive in a multi-million dollar supercar, surprize! Tanner won.
I haven’t been to New Jersey in a long time but I’m assuming that diesel pumps up there are still self serve, apparently commercial truckers do not have all day to wait for someone to pump their gas...like we do.
“Mr. Max, your car is ready...”
So I guess all those owners of Mustangs, Camaros, Miatas, WRXs, BRZs & FRSs are just buying them for their functionality & practicality. I’m in my 50s and my fondest memories of ‘classic’ cars are early Datsun Z cars, RX7s and first gen Miatas. Once owned a 1959 Galaxie and while it was a fun project didn’t ‘speak’ to…
I’ve personally known several people who purchased cars without immediately re-titling them, mainly because they plan to repair/restore them over a long period of time. Although I personally wouldn’t sink any additional money in to any project until I knew I had a clear title on it. And I wouldn’t purchase a vehicle…
Whenever I’ve sold a vehicle I make sure I and the buyer signs two copies of a bill of sale, one for the buyer and one for my records. Not absolute legal protection but the best I can do. I’ve known several people who’ve purchased vehicles and never bothered to re-title that vehicle in their name. Also be sure to keep…
If Vermont thinks that their mechanics have the power of life & death regarding vehicle inspections then they shouldn’t be in the hands of independent mechanics but should be done by the state thru the DMV. So now a valid inspection sticker is an insurance policy against any accident?
Buyer’s at fault for not doing his homework. But Mecum should have done more to protect the buyer, people pay premiums to buy from places like Mecum and if they sell something that’s not what it’s advertised to be, that reflects poorly on them, whether it’s their fault or not. And whoever provided the ‘certificate of…
My wife gave up her 1st gen Mini Cooper for a Flex and she loves it, she was dead-set against any minvan or SUV but needed 3rd row seats. And this car seats 6 adults comfortably. However, as a previous owner of a 2003 Honda Odyssey I have to add that my old minivan had much snappier throttle response from the same…
Love the idea of a sleeper with a fast drivetrain but I’m wary of anyone’s handiwork mid-project. I’ve seen too many that were either botched or needed more money than they’re worth. I’d look this one over with a fine toothed comb before committing, and $1500 is about all I’d offer. If it’s ugly it’d better be fast…
That spoiler serves a very real purpose, so when your friends inevitably ask you to help them move a couch or other large piece of furniture, just point to the spoiler and say “Sorry, it’s not fitting in my bed with with THAT thing in the way’.
Too many of these ‘reality’ car shows waste time on fabricated drama instead of drama over fabrication. Take ‘Lost in Transmission’, I like Rutledge and his taste in cars but every show spends three minutes on the project car while the hosts pretend to work on them, then hand it over to another mechanic while they go…
I still have a ‘99 LS400, probably one of the best drivetrains ever put in a car. The trunk is huge and unlike current cars actually has a large flat trunk lid for easy loading. Whisper quiet. I’ve heard the stories of how much thought the engineers put in to every aspect of this car, their flagship. And 16 years and…
After being in an accident in a commercial van with a security screen behind the seats I learned the value of having one of these emergency hammers, when my van wound up laying on it’s side and breaking the passenger window was the only exit. If that’s too big for your glove box a glass punch will work in a pinch.
