Friday I spent a leisurely afternoon watching movies and resting up.  I saw Bernie which I found to be really engaging and fun to watch, and finding out it was based on a true story was surprising to me.  I'd heard general good things about it but I guess I hadn't read any reviews or summaries.  Afterwards I watched My

I bought Bleed American based on the recommendation of the owner of a machine shop I was working at in the summer of 2001.  There was nothing but country and the occasional classic rock on the radio there and I probably bitched about that to no small extent. The owner of the shop, a guy only four years older than me

The reception was at a golf course and while the bar at the reception hall was soda-only my father managed to sniff out the clubhouse bar downstairs.  We spent most of the night there and left shortly after the bar closed.  I feel kind of bad for the bride since it was her family that made up the strict no fun

I went to a cousin's wedding in Central IL and not a single polka was played.  Coincidentally it was also a dry wedding.  My mother felt these facts constituted an annulment.

Oh yeah.  The Essen Haus is kind of scuzzy and the food isn't really worthwhile but steins of German beer and polka music will always keep me coming back.  All you really need are a few pretzels anyways.

I'm a terrible dancer except for polkas.  There is some genetic muscle memory that kicks in and I become a confident dancer during a polka but anything else comes on and I'm a shambling wreck with no concept of rhythm.

It is dire.  I was one of the few that went to see this in the theaters because my friend and I were both expecting some kind of fantasy movie satire.  It really missed the mark badly in that regard.  And it really is full of gay-panic jokes, so much so that the first thing my friend said afterward was "What the fuck

That's a perfect description of Theroux's character in this.

I spent most of my weekend out at my buddy's cabin so I didn't do much of anything pop-culture related except for watching The Raid: Redemption on Friday afternoon.  Holy shit was that amazing.  I had high expectations going in given the buzz but I was still blown away by how nuts the action sequences were.

I'm with you.  A friend gave me their debut album as a gift and I like it while usually agreeing with the people that don't like them.

The Great Taste of the Midwest was this weekend and it basically took up my entire weekend.  I went out to the pre-parties on Friday night with a few friends.  The highlight of the night was seeing the Polkaholics playing outside of the Essen Haus as part of the Revolution Brewing party.  I would have stayed all night
