Hey friend!

YES! I happen to be more interested in the Alltrack, but the GSW S 4Motion is being seriously overlooked. Yes, it’s only available in a low trim, so a compromise. But this should be the car for all the jaded Jalops who are bitching about the Alltrack’s rugged demeanor. AWD turbo stick shift wagon, non-lifted. Just

Lifted stick shift Golf wagon weirdo#7 checking in. What number are you?

Some idealists may want the 2.0T, but don’t you think the 1.8T with its good torque band will feel good enough for the average person? It sounds like a peppy enough engine. Hard to please the performance types. Why bother placating them if most buyers aren’t so picky? How many more sales can they get by adding a

From my understanding, at least from the news so far, Canada does not get a stick shift. I’m in the USA and I’m mildly shocked that we’re actually getting that option. Plus multiple trims to choose from (S trim seems like a good value) whereas I believe Canada gets only one pricey top-shelf trim.

Well worth noting. Once upon a time (before I bought my current car) I was considering a first gen Forester. By all rights I should be considering the current gen with its stick shift (a requirement for me). But unfortunately I find the current forester kind of...ugly and not wagony enough for me. Ah, vanity...

Consider me one of those 12 weirdos who requires a stick shift and thus will NOT be cross-shopping this car against, well, anything. Except maybe the other derivatives of the Sportwagen. Oh, and I’m a hopeless VW guy. And station wagon guy. So that eliminates whatever base model CUVs on the market that are still

I like your mpg optimism, and this is a big reason why the Haldex system appeals to me. I know I don’t need AWD most of the time. But the spec sheet has been disappointing to some VW folks. Its EPA rating (only for the DSG version, no info on stick shift yet) is inferior to the Outback. We will see if it actually is

Totally agree. I have my eye on the S. Much cheaper than SE, and I actually don’t want a sunroof (though I’d suffer with one, hehe). Audio would be nice too, but not a dealbreaker. Other features like heated seats and nice wheels are still on the S.

50% according to the reports I’ve seen.

Regular Golf Sportwagen 4Motion with 6 speed manual is also coming out. Gotta settle for the 1.8T though.

You are so on point.

It’s not about that size, it’s exactly that size (except higher suspension). Same platform as the Golf Sportwagen, which itself is the same platform as the Golf, but with about a foot of extra length behind the rear wheels. There is a Passat Alltrack elsewhere in the world, which is a bigger wagon.

Then call me an idiot!

The S has the same 17" wheels as the SE, according to the details released by VW on their official release website.

Wow, more hate than I expected on here. I thought this would be a Jalop-approved machine. But I guess it’s too off-roady...and also not off-roady enough at the same time. ;)

My understanding is that not every trim can even have a 5-speed. Only the TSI S. The TSI SE and SEL are only available with an auto. Seems like the same thing with the current JSW. You CANNOT get a manual above the S trim in the gas car. As someone who likes TDIs but nonetheless would have a hard time justifying the

As for the TSI SportWagen, it's good, but it didn't blow me away. Think of its 1.8-liter turbo engine as the GTI Lite; it's got plenty of torque, and it's quick as far as economy cars go, but it stops short of being truly fun to drive.
