Wow, way to lack reading comprehension. Nowhere did I call the barista an essential worker. Nowhere did I mention any social privilege. A latte IS a frivolity right now. These baristas - many of whom are greatly mistreated and forced to work because there isn’t any social assistance - deserve a little more respect

I think that the issue two months ago was that he was concerned if there was a run on masks there wouldn't be enough for healthcare workers and that the general public doesn't know how to wear a mask properly so it would give them a false sense of security, actually increasing the risk rather than lowering it. I don't

No offense, but your friend sounds super entitled. She's privileged enough to have disposable income for a frivolity like a coffee, and begrudges a worker who is exposed constantly to risk for other privileged frivolity-purchasers. Your friend needs to give her head a shake.

Honestly, we’re at a point where thousands of restaurants have closed forever. That’s not just restaurant owners, but thats wait staff, cooks, dishwashers not to point out the ripple effect on wholesalers and distributers.
I get that things are tough out there, because food service is not the only industry that’s been

I also maintain that, if you’re someone who can afford the extraneous purchase of a coffee (which I, myself, am guilty of doing too much of right now), then you absolutely should be tipping right now. (I mean, this conversation goes beyond Covid, but Covid has left zero wiggle room to me).

Actually, there’s been a lot of focus in the scientific community recently (like, past 2-3 months) of masks as source control. They’ve mostly all come to the same conclusion— surgical and cloth masks kind of suck at preventing you from getting sick, but they’re actually really good at limiting respiratory droplets. Tha

Not on masks, but on the completely new virus that no one had seen before? Yes. Lots more research and information came to light over time.

Meanwhile every Shaniqua who has heard her name used to mean “ghetto black baby momma” by white people for decades rolls her eyes and moves on with her life.

Years ago I was hesitant, but after my first tour I couldn’t get enough and went right back for itinerary #2 and 3.

The same as anoyone who’s name has been used as shorthand for an insult over the decades: “chatty kathy,” “plain jane,” “debbie downer,” “negative nancy,” “lazy susan,” “bye, felicia,” “average joe.” It happens, people deal with it, language trends move on.

The touch of class from a personal insult. Nice.

Today is the centenary of Peggy Lee’s birth. Before there was an Adele or Lady Gaga or a Madonna or Diana Krall or even Carole King, there was Miss Peggy Lee (as she was always billed): writer, arranger, jazz and pop vocalist beyond compare.

Does she actually understand what she did wrong? Because it feels like she’s missing it. It wasn’t that she called the police in a situation where it was a judgement call. It was that she literally used calling the police as a threat, the unspoken part of which was, They’ll believe me long before they believe you, and

I consider all wealthy people to be tacky as fuck.

100% agree. If the people who have platforms, influence, and power actually cared, they would have found a solution long ago. Instead, we just have thinkpieces like this on why the system is broken without any tangible solutions. We’re all just spectators.

Rick Ross’ swimming pool looks like he was going for the look of the grand pool at Hearst Castle (but, y’know, on a less is more budget):

There’s been a sea change in the American public mind over the past few decades in that empathy seems to have completely disappeared from the conservative personality. It was never one of the conservative’s strong suits, but since Regan it has become increasingly rare. Add to this an overall American ideological shift

Its all about the rent... push as many people into a space as possible. Using dividers or having separate offices within the space cost dollars. That other shit about collaboration... that’s just shit.

Can I just have one goddamn thing to potentially look forward to

Not to be a downer, but I’ve called those hotlines. They suck. The last one I bothered calling gave me directions to a hospital... that had burned down fifteen years ago.
