I actually like Sedaris, meanness and all, and his work does go into the dark side of getting older, and of gaining privilege. I had many, many “hell yeah” moments when I read Calypso, which deals a lot with aging and death.

I mean, that episode is terrible, but preventing students from leaving the classroom seems like a good idea? 

Her career is certainly much larger post-Glee, but she’d done a metric tonne of work before that I have to assume she was at least a “oh, hey, it’s that lady” for most people by the mid-2000s.
