The bedazzled crown, débutante fashions, and sash make this look like every other pageant I've ever seen. I'm sure there have been homecoming queens who were not teen dreams; but I'm also sure looks are a big factor in a highschool popularity contest. So to be clear, that is why beauty became a subject.

I don't get what is anti-feminist about being skeptical of the motives at hand, or about saying I'm glad she seems happy, but I wouldn't have appreciated this. If anything, feminism can serve as a tool for exposing how wrong good intentions often are.
