And to side note: I’m fine with “Latinx” as a gender neutral term, but I’m a bit confused why it’s used in a case where the candidate is quite clearly and visibly a latina.

The “Latinx” pedantry wouldn’t be an issue if Splinter used it correctly. In a case like this, where the subject is a known quantity (i.e. a woman, singular), there’s no reason to use “Latinx”. A Spanish-speaking person most certainly wouldn’t use it, and would use the more appropriate “Latina”.
