Agree. I love Bernie, and will always appreciate what he’s meant for the progressive movement. But it’s too late for him to be president. You can tell by listening to him that while his heart is still in the right place, he’s lost quite a few MPH from his fastball. If he is concerned with his personal legacy, the best

He’s right, there weren’t many deaths when he left the island. Most occurred in the aftermath, largely because of his inept response and indifference to the conditions that left thousands of Americans to die. That’s the fucking point, asshole. Forget for a moment about the lying and callous, flippant attitude toward

That guy was a fucking creep, and if Snider had anything to do with his demise, I’ll buy an R-word shirt tomorrow in solidarity.

I see your point, but senators only have to answer to the voters in their own states. There will not be enough states that disapprove of Trump to make removal feasible. Senators in Trump states don’t care that his national approval rating is in the tank. He’s still popular enough in more than half of the states, even

I agree with you, and I think Giri said as much in this piece. The Slate piece he linked to as having hit the nail on the head was much clearer in assigning blame to Serena, even though they, too, also put some of the blame on the umpire.

Of course centrists exist. And given our two party system, and the coalition the Republicans have built with social conservatives (racists and bigots, mostly) and capitalists, the socialists and progressives have to include centrists in their coalition if they want any hope of building a majority. Centrists can win

I would love to see things play out like that, but I'm skeptical. The Saturday Night Massacre scenario would require enough Republican senators with backbones to make impeachment and removal a viable option. I also don't think Trump would need Senate confirmation to replace Rosenstein with someone who would

There are two separate issues here. Yes he and the DOJ should be held accountable for failing to abide by the court order to reunite families. I wouldn’t hold my breath.

The yellow card analogy would be a bit more accurate if they only gave yellow cards for unsporting behavior.  Then it would be easy to avoid getting a second one, which is obviously not how it works in soccer.

Appa-lay-shuh is the pronunciation of condescension, the pronunciation of the imperialists, the pronunciation of the people who do not want to be associated with the place

Yep. It may be tighter than he would have liked, but Cruz won’t lose the election. Walker absolutely could, but I don’t see any way a Republican loses a statewide election in Texas this year.

This is a problem. Contrary to popular belief, mass incarceration was predominantly fueled not by nonviolent drug crime, but by mandatory minimum sentences for violent criminals and laws like Three Strikes. That means that if we want to end mass incarceration, it’s necessary to grapple with the implications of

When I saw this shitbag trending yesterday, I was disgusted to see it wasn’t because he had been tortured and killed*. But maybe this will do the trick.

No. The answer to your very much rhetorical question is no.

I think for him it’s stressful, because I imagine his threshold is pretty low. He never wanted the job, and now I’m pretty sure he’s miserable. But your point is well taken.

This took place nearly a year ago. I’m no mental health expert, but I shudder to think at what the pressures and demands of the presidency can do to an already battered and paranoid mental state over the course of a year. I know the odds of invoking the 25th are incredibly slim, but it’s terrifying to think this man

It’s nice to know there are people trying to protect us from his worst impulses, but these are by and large also garbage people who still want to fuck us. I'm skeptical.

I agree. I’m not a fan of team racing, but it’s been like this for a long time, and it’s not changing anytime soon. If Vettel had been a little more disciplined it would have probably been Ferrari team tactics beating Hamilton. Without team tactics it would have been a boring procession for Kimi.

Once Hamilton made the late pass and Kimi couldn't get him back, especially given his tires, it was a fait accompli, and Kimi let up to preserve his car. As others have said it was a great race.

Why would he be terrible? He’s one of the best handful of athletes on the planet, and he surely played the game growing up. He’s playing in the fucking A-League, which is worse than MLS. He’s never going to be great on the ball, but his physical gifts will more than make up for that in a garbage league.
