What's wrong with Brave, Toy Story 3, and Monsters U? Thought all three were wonderful. IMHO Toy Story 3 was better than 2. Monsters U a fun romp that I actually enjoyed also more than the original. And Brave? Brilliant.
In terms of tone and even themes, IMHO Empire (tho a brilliant film) is no more "mature" than Harry Potter.

I'd say any male "struggles with portrayals of women," but imho Moffat suffers no more than others. If we are to look at Who, besides Donna, I find Amy (written by Moffat btw) as one of the most well-rounded characters on the show. Far more than Rose and Martha combined.
