Guys... I appreciate the long discussion up here... but here is the thing. This movie said a whole lot. To sit there and say it really didn’t say anything well just because is was made by the guy who directed the Hangover is just plain lazy.

I agree with you, everyone else saw a different movie it seems. I’m not a white person and I liked this movie, it speaks a lot about a 70's gotham (NYC) on the verge of collapse and does what any live-action version, adult-version of a comic or cartoon should do, makes it REAL.

I shared this opinion before my wife made me go. I loved the movie. It is not an origin story of a super villain, it is the story of a man who tried to be good his entire life but was abused and mocked for his genuine efforts that leads to a dark descent.
