This is a perfect car for a high school kid who wants to learn how to weld while driving something cooler than their friends; and they’ll and end up with something to keep their whole life.

This is precisely how I feel... What really sucks is that I thought I was biding my time till my income could afford me an upgrade, but the cost of the upgrade has been steadily out-pacing me for the last few years.
Yeah I got a very gently used honda civic for a steal back in The Before Times, and I didn’t expect to keep it forever, just until my work and expenses stabilized a bit. Now that I’m in a good place, I’m still hanging onto the honda because it’s paid off, reliable, no bullshit bells and whistles, and any car that…
Hard to do when reliability mostly functions as folklore.
I think the way it works is similar to a kit car. One manufacturer sells you a kit, mostly assembled. You or someone else puts whatever motor you want in it.
It’s the same reason “glider kits” for heavy trucks exist.
I’m not sure if it’s just me, but car prices have made me maintain, clean and insure my fleet like they are the last cars I’ll be able to afford. When I bought my truck 6 years ago, I assumed I’d upgrade when something better came out.
I suspect there is an emotional attachment to this vehicle by the purchaser,
That 1990 interior is pretty darned nice for the time.
I always liked the way these looked. Then you get to the interior, and just...how the shit did GM get away with that crap for decades?? Man their interiors were pure hot garbage for such a long time.
I am all in, why not? Run a few tests on it, throw a few parts at it, if it works you win, if it doesn’t a guy like me who has never owned one learns to speak Mercedes, and it gets sold for around what I bought it for, or parted out
Sure, but unless you live somewhere where the size is a marked advantage for parking, how is a vehicle like this better than a Yaris or a Fit or something that’s big enough for a few passengers or a little more luggage in a pinch, yet no more expensive nor worse on gas?
Only in civilised places. Here in the US, they tend to not care too much if you obscure the plate with your bike rack.
I think the smaller mufflers on this car’s aftermarket exhaust exacerbate the issue, which is probably why it’s so apparent here.
Per the second photo, this appears to be “Z” enthusiast owned. At least that betters the chances of the current owner having an above-average knowledge of these cars! NP
Ugly looks better rolling than shiny stuck on the side of the road.
Why don’t y’all just do a feature called “Ask a Trucker”? I’m sure I’m not the only one on here who drives commercial truck for a living; I’m also a driver trainer.
You’re never going to get paid by the word that way!
My buddy has an ex-wife that’s a loose nut. The indicators were a little different.
