As much as I despise Trump (and I really, really, really despise Trump), I am also kind of fascinated by his psychology. Criticizing people distracted by the eclipse wasn’t really the point.  That whole bit was primarily a light sketch meant to transition from the topic of the eclipse over to the real meat of what Stewart wanted to discuss: criticizing the US response to Israel.
